Kemijoki Oy, Pirttikoski hydropower plant, Rovaniemi
The plant’s production facilities and turbines are situated 60–70 metres underground in caverns excavated in bedrock.
Water flows through underground tunnels with a total length of approximately three kilometres. The ventilation system of the Pirttikoski hydropower plant has been modernised from its original 1960s setup to meet current standards. The ventilation controls were automated, and waste heat from the generators is now recovered and utilised.
