Vibmapper® for identifying vibration in rail and road projects

Vibmapper®, a track vibration modeller, extracts open data from various sources and calculates the vibration effects on up to tens of thousands of track-side properties. With the results, we can target the needs for vibration and structure-borne noise mitigation in your rail or road project on a property-by-property basis. This tool saves significant amounts of money in rail projects of all sizes. It is suitable for noise and vibration calculations in train, metro, and tram projects.

Developed by AINS Group, this algorithm-assisted rail vibration modeling tool utilises open data such as location and property information, soil data, and technical data of the railway, combining it with algorithms. It takes into account the structure-borne noise and vibration caused by moving trains or trams and their transmission through different soil types and bedrock to properties.

With the program, we can model, for example, the movement of heavy freight trains and high-speed passenger trains on different tracks, through switches, and at different speeds, and calculate the vibration and structure-borne noise impacts of different traffic scenarios on residential buildings along the route

A single Vibmapper® modelling exercise can cover up to tens of thousands of properties.

We target vibration mitigation measures where they are needed

Based on the property-specific results produced by Vibmapper®, we can target measures to mitigiate and control rail vibration and select the right solutions accurately in relation to costs and benefits.

We present the results produced by the software on a map in different colours, making it easier to interpret the results.

Vibration affecting residential comfort is mitigated by foundation methods and superstructures of the railway, soil stabilization structures, and solutions implemented in buildings.

Vibmapper® benefits the land use planner

We can also help identify the best land use options and insulation solutions with Vibmapper®. When planning dense urban structures along good rail connections, you can identify risk areas with Vibmapper®, compare options, and make the best choices regarding, for example, the placement and functions of buildings.

For example, comparing alternative foundation methods for the railway has produced significant benefits and savings even on shorter sections of the track.

Vibmapper® is used in several railway projects in Finland and offers the possibility to carry out vibration surveys over large areas, which would not be possible with conventional methods.
