Rälssi-road lighting, Vantaa

The city wanted to cheer up pedestrians' journeys and bring surprise and art there. The structure of the bridges of the Three Ring Road over the rails is tunnel-like, long, low and dark. Art made with lights brings freshness and cheer there, also partly during the day. An imaginary forest was created under the bridge, where the entire ship of the bridge glows with green light. The general lighting of the area for the carriageway and the light traffic lane was done with a green light. In addition to the general lighting, the cobblestone slopes were illuminated with the same green light. When you go under the bridge, you dive into total green. Everyone going under the bridge, people, cars and trolleys turn green, because there are almost no other wavelengths in green light. In this way, the experiencer gets an immersive and powerful experience of change and a different state. The green lighting has been implemented in a non-glare and inexpensive way, mainly by replacing old lamps. The lighting intensity is a little more than in the areas surrounding the bridges, so that you can see and feel the greenery even before you go there. There are also animals in the fantasy forest. A total of four animal silhouettes: a leopard, a fish, a frog and a butterfly are projected under the bridges, one on each cobblestone slope. The animals to be projected are chosen for their naturally mottled skin. When the silhouette of the animals is projected onto the cobblestone surface, the shadows of the cobblestones form a three-dimensional spotted surface for the animals. In this way, the animals also integrate into the place and its structures.
