Laakso Joint Hospital, Helsinki
Laakso Joint Hospital is a collaborative project between the City of Helsinki and HUS, implemented using an alliance model.
Upon completion, it will be one of the largest hospitals in Finland. Laakso Joint Hospital will centralize demanding psychiatric and neurological care and rehabilitation for the Uusimaa region. Additionally, the hospital will have facilities for somatic hospital care, rehabilitation, palliative and hospice care, and outpatient services for Helsinki residents. The project includes the construction of three new buildings (Main Building, Northern New Building, and Ohkola New Building) and the renovation of two hospital buildings. The project also includes extensive underground maintenance and parking facilities with a tunnel network. The structural, geotechnical, and rock engineering is handled by the UNITAS consortium, consisting of A-Insinöörit, AFRY, and Vahanen. The main and architectural design is managed by the LATU consortium, which includes ONE Architects, part of the A-Insinöörit group, as well as Tähti-Set Architects Ltd (main designer), Lukkaroinen Architects Ltd, and UKI Architects Ltd. During the development phase, A-Insinöörit is responsible for the structural design of the main building and primarily for geotechnical design, and collaborates with AFRY on rock engineering. The main contractor for the project is SRV.
