Oulu Prison, Oulu
The new prison building in Ruskonselkä, Oulu, is a modern, secure, and functionally efficient complex that provides modern facilities for approximately 100 remand and convicted prisoners and staff.
The prison has separate wings for men, women, and juvenile remand prisoners, which improves security and enables multidisciplinary cooperation. The new facilities support efficient work, smooth logistics, and staff well-being. The prison's layout and internal connections to courtrooms reduce the need for transportation and improve the smoothness of processes. The new prison replaces a prison that has been in use for 140 years. The facilities meet today's prison care requirements and strengthen the activities of the authorities in Northern Finland far into the future. The end result is a new prison that supports the objectives of prison care, improves staff working conditions, and promotes the rehabilitation of prisoners.
