F‑building of Oulu University Hospital , Oulu

The new F‑building of Oulu University Hospital brings cancer care, research and diagnostics together under one roof for the first time.

F‑building of Oulu University Hospital , Oulu

Delivered through an alliance model, the project emphasises patient safety, efficient care pathways and future‑proof hospital design. The renewal programme of Oulu University Hospital required a modern facility capable of streamlining treatment processes and uniting previously scattered cancer care, imaging and laboratory services. The goal was to address long‑standing spatial challenges, improve the flow of care and provide patients with a higher‑quality treatment experience, while ensuring a safe and functional working environment for staff. A‑Insinöörit was responsible for project and construction management, supervision, structural engineering, information modelling coordination and operational planning coordination within the alliance team. The outcome is a 33,000‑square‑metre hospital building, precisely tailored to user needs and completed on schedule and within the €197 million budget. The F‑building enables the launch of patient care in modern, fully furnished and simulated facilities, with direct tunnel access to the radiotherapy unit completed in 2022. These new spaces strengthen cancer care services across the region and support the hospital’s long‑term development.
