Hailuoto causeway and bridges, Oulu
The new over 8 kilometer long fixed connection will link Oulu and the largest island in the Bay of Bothnia, Hailuoto, via an embankment road and two bridges.

The fixed road connection under construction between Riutunkari in Oulu and Huikku in Hailuoto will replace the current ferry service once completed. Approximately 6.9 kilometers of embankment road is being built, and the total length of the two bridges, Huikku Bridge and Riuttu Bridge, is about 1.5 kilometers. The steel-concrete composite girder bridge on the Hailuoto side, Huikku Bridge, is 767 meters long and has a clearance height of over 18 meters, making it an exceptionally large waterway bridge. Comprehensive environmental studies were conducted in the area, and the planning has been guided by Natura requirements. A-Insinöörit was responsible for the design of the embankment road, including road arrangements, and the design of Huikku Bridge as part of the alliance group implementing the fixed connection. The connection enables a unique 7-kilometer journey from the island to the mainland by car, bus, bicycle, or on foot through the scenic landscapes of the Bay of Bothnia.
