Nummi underpass and Raunistula pedestrian bridge, Turku

The graceful-looking railway bridge will support heavy rail traffic and enable increased train traffic between Helsinki and Turku. A-Insinöörit was responsible for the construction design of the bridges. The new railway bridge over the Aura River and the Nummi underpass are an important part of the Kupittaa–Turku double-track project. A-Insinöörit was responsible for the construction design of the bridges in the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency's project as a partner of the developer, GRK. The double track and the new railway bridge will improve the operational reliability of train traffic between Helsinki and Turku, as they will no longer require Turku Main Station to rely on a single track. The project will also enable the development of the entire Coastal Railway traffic well into the future, as the capacity of the Kupittaa–Turku section of the railway increases. The Aurajoki railway bridge has a total length of 170 meters, and it is a type of prestressed concrete continuous girder bridge. The original Aurajoki railway bridge was put into use in Raunistula, Turku, as early as 1899, and was rebuilt in 1954. The usable rails, sleepers and granite stone cladding of the old railway bridge, which was demolished to make way for the new bridge, are being utilized in various parts of the railway network.
