Underground parking facility P-Hämppi

In the spring of 2012, an underground parking garage for 950 cars will be completed in Tampere. The project is part of the development of Tampere’s Tulli area and the city centre. When completed, P-Hämppi will serve the centre of Tampere’s short-  and long-term parking needs in the area between the Suomen pankin aukio and Pakkahuoneenaukio squares.

A-Insinöörit  is functioning as the project’s chief consultant. Our responsibilities include design direction, the preparation of contract documents, the organisation of competitive bidding among contractors, the direction of design taking place during the building stage, construction management, as well as the contract period’s expert and local supervision.

The length and volume of the parking cave being excavated approximately 30 metres underneath Hämeentie will be approximately 600 metres and 160,000 m3 respectively. A total of approximately 200,000m3 of solid earth materials will be excavated in the project.

The development of underground parking in the central city area reduces above-ground parking and the pressures to build above-ground parking facilities. Aiming at a service life of at least 100 years, the implementation of the two-level parking garage will emphasise user friendliness and life cycle efficiency.
